THE FOLLOWING "ARTIST OF THE MONTH" WAS CHOSEN FROM FORMS
THAT WERE SUBMITTED BY GLASS ARTISTS WORLDWIDE.

Vine at the Arbo

The installation of this mural began on the Winter Solstice, a very auspicious time. It marks the end of the darkness and the coming of the light - a new beginning when all things are possible. I like that. This mural is on the outside of community building in a new housing development in Richmond, Ca. It's made of glass and high fire tile and measures 9'X7'

In the late 70s I expressed my art in oils.....many of my drawings are from the 80s and 90s....and the mosaics are my latest venture. I apprenticed at the Institute of Mosaic Art where my training included courses in Architectural Mosaic Applications, Mosaic Mural Making and Outdoor Mosaic Applications. I now specialize in public and private mosaic mural commissions.

As well as making art, I have been a graphic designer for 27 years. I enjoy the practical application of art - that's what has drawn me to creating public mosaics.

I fell into mosaics in 2006 just for fun. Since then I have created both fine art and public art installations. People enjoy my designs and I find deep gratification in that.

I ha€™ve worked in many different art media and find glass mosaics to be the most expressive. Using glass, I can create fluid lines that move the eye through the piece. The colors are caught in light in one area but hide in shadow in another.

I am involved with the Jingletown Art community where I have shown during Open Studios and a once-monthly Art Walk.

The female form offers unending opportunities to explore not only height and width but, most importantly, the third dimension: depth.

  Virgin of Guadalupe Mosaic Mural

The Virgin is on a wall in Oakland's Jingletown neighborhood as the first piece of a much larger upcoming art project: the Peterson Street Art Wall and Garden. This long wall is a magnet for gang  graffiti and it is hoped that the image of the Virgin will keep thegraffiti and gangs away.  She is 7' x 4' on a wall section that is 10' x 10'. I will be adding stars around her soon too.
